We were blessed with a dry morning on Saturday 30th November, and even more so with the number of volunteers that turned up to help, swelling our ranks to 25 people.
There had been a sharp frost so it was very cold and this did slow us down and the planting wasn’t fully completed, but this will be finished in the next few days.
The tree species we have planted include: Blackthorn, Crab Apple, Dogwood, Dog Rose, Hazel, Hawthorn, Oak, Rowan, Silver Birch and Wild Cherry. We will monitor their progress carefully, and eventually we will need to thin them out a bit to allow strong growth. We will also do all we can to ensure they don’t affect gravestones and ensure they provide a long term benefit to the cemetery and the local community.
Here are a selection of photographs showing what we achieved, and we would seek the help of the local communities to help protect the trees as they grow, helping combat climate change which will impact on all our lives.
